Nearly sixty years of neighbours helping neighbours
Since 1967, Ballina Shire Meals on Wheels has helped local people stay living independently at home — one meal, and one friendly visit, at a time.
A local not-for-profit, run by the community
Ballina Shire Meals on Wheels is a not-for-profit service that has been serving seniors, people with disability and their carers since 1967. We provide quality meal delivery for a reasonable fee, and support services for people in Ballina and neighbouring areas — particularly those who need a hand to keep living independently in the comfort of their own homes.
We make sure our food is not only nutritious but suits each client's personal requirements, including specific dietary needs and cultural taste preferences. And we stay connected: our volunteers check in on each client's wellbeing and welfare with every delivery.
We're funded through the Australian Government's Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP), registered with the ACNC, and we meet the NSW Food Authority's requirements for food delivery agencies.

Our vision, philosophy and objectives
Our vision
To provide appropriate meal delivery, other food services, and social support to those most in need in our community.
Our philosophy
We believe in the right of people to make choices and maintain their independence; to dignity, respect, privacy and confidentiality; to be valued as individuals; to access services on a non-discriminatory basis; and to responsive, accountable services.
Our objectives
To support people who are most in need to remain in their own home, and to operate the service in an effective, efficient and accountable manner.
The journey so far
The first meals go out
Local volunteers begin delivering hot meals to older residents of Ballina Shire, so they can keep living at home.
From Ballina to the villages
Runs expand to Lennox Head, Alstonville, Wardell, Cabbage Tree Island and beyond — with weekly chilled and frozen deliveries reaching the outer villages.
Still local, still volunteer-powered
Funded through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme and run by a volunteer management committee, we deliver hot, chilled and frozen meals five days a week — with the same friendly check-in as always.
[Committee: add key milestones, life members and any anniversary dates you'd like honoured here.]

Here at Ballina Shire Meals on Wheels, we prepare more than just a meal — we provide a recipe for independence.
Run by a volunteer committee, delivered by neighbours
Ballina Shire Meals On Wheels Inc is governed by a volunteer management committee drawn from the local community. Our thanks go to every committee member, life member, staff member and volunteer who has kept the service going since 1967.
